SLG (SIMS Learning Gateway) is a system that allows parents and students to have access to information that we store about our students. This system meets and surpasses government criteria for online reporting and has been fully operation at this school for well over a year.
What information will I have access to?We are continually working on improving the site and welcome any feedback you can give us to make it a better site for you to use. You will currently be able to see information about student’s attendance, achievements and assessments, as well as their timetable. You can also view the School Calendar, Options Booklet and the most recent Newsletter. As we near the main examination time, a copy of the Examinations Timetable will be accessible. SLG uses real-time data, so the information is always current.
As a parent, can I see if my child has arrived at school?Guidance teachers finish registration by 8:50am. You will be able to see whether your child has been marked as present. However, there are several reasons why the register may be late going into the system for example: A teacher may be absent and a register may have been done on paper by a cover supervisor. If you notice your child is not marked present, please don’t hesitate to contact the ‘Attendance Team’ at the school on 01482 652622.
What if I find a mistake in the information?Data integrity is important to us, while we endeavour to make sure that all our data is accurate we realise mistakes are possible. If you have any concerns about the information please email the school at enquiries@sydneysmith.hull.sch.uk
Who can access the information? If you would like to register please contact the school via email at enquiries@sydneysmith.hull.sch.uk and if you are entitled to view the information we will provide you with a user name and password. Many parents and carers have already registered and are now using SLG regularly. If you have more than one child at the school, you will only need to log in on one account to see the information for all your children. We are currently in the process of registering all our students too; they will only be able to access their own information.
How secure is the system? The school’s IT Support Team has worked closely with Capita to provide a secure platform for this information. All the data is stored on secure servers at the school, and all data is sent over secure connection to the viewing area of the SLG. We have taken every provision to prevent this information being viewed by people who do not access to the site. Parents, carers and students must do the same. The following precautions should always be observed:
In addition to these precautions you can view the following policies on the Document section of the Schools’ Website: Acceptable use of ICT Policy and Acceptable use of the Internet. If you have any concerns at all about the security please contact the school immediately.
Once you have been given a user name and password you can access the site by clicking here or by using the link on the School Website. When you first log on you will be prompted to change your password. There is a criterion for this: You must use both upper and lower case letters and at least one number, you cannot use your name. When you have changed your password, log out of the site and then log in again using your new password. When you have access to the site look in the documents section and you will find a USER GUIDE to help you find your way around the site.
I am having problems, what should I do?Please don’t hesitate to contact the school and we will do our best to support you.
